I will be starting nursing school in january and I will get student loans for the program. I would also like to buy a house sometime in the near future. Would me having a mortgage ruin my chance of getting student loans? What if my fiance and got the house in both of our names?
My fiance makes 70,000 a year and I am a server making a "reported" rough estimate of 28,000 a year.
Stafford loans are not credit based. They will not look at your mortgage. Private loans are a little different. They are credit based.

Andrew, have you consider to apply for scholarship instead of student loans? Many people has to struggling to pay the loans back because of the high interest rate. Some friends of mine in college told me that they have valuable information regarding scholarships from this place.
