During the 7th Annual Rock 106’s Toyz for the Kidzes we recieved a call live on the air Saturday, Dec 6th, morning form an older lady. She said she was going to be scrooge this year and sounded very upset. She told us that she’s tried for the last 3 years to get help through various organizations for her 60 year old sister. Mary (the sister needing help) is living in a glorified chicken house on land that her and her husband had worked to maintain and buy. Her husband has since passed away but she still has about 10 years left to pay off the land. The lady said that everyone always helps out kids but tend to forget about the elderly.
I told her that “that’s not what we do but I would try to help her.” Well, we were able to.
Thus “The House That Rock Built” was born. We got all the supplies donated by Builders Supply Do It Best. The labor is donated by Strong Built Construction.
I think that with all the negative stories in the news that we need a good story to show that the community still cares about people in the community. It’s not too late to make a Christmas miracle happen for someone. It doesn’t have to be something as big as The House That Rock Built as long as you try.
With the success that we had with the 7th Annual Rock 106’s Toyz for the Kidzes I didn’t think it was possible to top the feeling we all had from all of the giving but we managed.
