We Buy Houses

Hey guys! This is a new series I decided to try. I enjoyed writing this one. It could get a bit PG 13 at some points, but not yet anyway tell me what you think! =]

I was on my way home from work. My second job. It’s hard for me to pay the bills and be an 18 year old at the same time. I had to drop out of high school a year ago. Because the truth is, I’m a teen mom. Every day to me is a new challenge. When I got pregnant, my boyfriend left me. Typical. I got kicked out of my parents’ house, and now live in a tiny apartment that I have a tough time paying for. Sometimes I wonder if there’s even a reason to live, but then I think about my daughter. My beautiful Hope. Hope was all I had. She was the reason I was living. I named her Hope because that’s what I needed so desperately.
Today I dropped Hope off at the daycare center and decided it was time for grocery shopping. I parked my old used car that I had had since I was 15 in the parking lot. I decided to buy a few new clothes for Hope. She had been wearing the same old tattered clothes. After I was finished, I went in line for the register. The cashier scanned all my items and said, “That’s $52.45.” My heart sank. I only had about 20. I hadn’t realized how much overboard I had gone. How embarrassing. So I said, “I’m sorry could I charge? I don’t really have enough.” I felt the guy behind me staring. “Ma’m, you’re going to have to pay for it now or come back when you can.” I was taken back by her rudeness. “Please, I need food in my apartment , I’m only 18 and don’t have the money, please - ” “I’ll take care of it.” I looked behind me. It was the guy behind me that was staring earlier. He took out his wallet and gave her the money. I just stared at him in awe. The cashier just gawked at me. “Here you go.” The boy smiled at me and handed me my bags. “Th-thank you.” “No problem.” He held the door for me. “Thanks.” He kept walking with me and I had to ask him. “Why would you do something like that for a stranger?” “Well, I don’t know. Strangers are people too.” “I really appreciate it.” “Hey, don’t worry about it. I’m Joe Jonas.” Joe Jonas. He was amazingly gorgeous. His black wavy hair blowing in the wind, his flawless smooth-looking dark skin, and his beautiful chocolate — brown eyes. I decided to introduce myself too. “I’m Ella Thomas.” “Nice to meet you, Ella.” I blushed. “You too.” We walked together to my car. My ugly car. “Well, I gotta go. I have to pick up my….” I stopped. I couldn’t tell him I had a year old daughter at home, he would think I was a slut. “-my little sister.” “Ok. I guess I’ll see you around.” He seemed pretty convinced.Phew. “Where do you live?” “Um, right down that road over there. I live in apartment C25.” Why had I just told a stranger where I lived? I must be losing it. “I live on Hue Street. You should come by sometime.” I must be dreaming. Hue Street was where all the nice fancy houses were, and this boy wanted me to come to his house. “Um, sure. But remember, my sister–” “Of course she’s welcome too.” He smiled at me. I smiled back. It was impossible not to. His smile was just so riveting and contagious. “Here’s my number.” He handed me a piece of paper. “Oh here’s mine.” I wrote it down on the same paper and tore it off and gave it to him. He studied my face, like he was trying to say something. “How about tomorrow?” That was fast. “What?” “I’m sorry, I just feel like I need to know more about you.” I smiled at the sweet remark. “No, no, it’s fine because I want to do the same with you.” He looked more relaxed. “Ok then. How about I take you out to dinner? Meet me by the gas station by 7 o’clock.” “Sounds great.” We smiled at each other and then, he was gone.
