I need any suggestions on how to cover them up and/or how to tear them down. Please help! They're hideous!
Stucco is and can be beautiful. Instead of all the sanding try a color of paint you like to match your decor.

IDK…I think you have to put sheet rock over them and then paint them like regular walls. Kind of costly I think.

The best way to hide imperfections is to use a textured paint. It looks like stucco, and hides a multitude of problems. I would try to sand it off if possible, or, if the walls are drywall, rip them out and start over. Here in the South, most of the ceilings you see are stucco, or "popcorn" ceilings. A big fad in the 80's, you see them everywhere!

Three options:
1. Hire a plasterer (or learn at Home Depot) about how to put a smooth coat on. This is costly, but worth it.
2. A drywall sander with expertise can sand down the "lumps", but there will still be a residual lumpiness you may not like…and the dust is unbelievable….
3. Visit a decorator or get some home magazines. It's increasingly cool to cover the walls with some fabric or bamboo paper which can have a padded backing that will mask or complely cover the lumps. This is the most reasonable option - new look, no mess (but be aware the ceiling - if bumpy - will still bother you…but everything isn't perfect….a great fixture will hide many flaws with splendor.
Good luck!

Try painting the walls with a faux finish, ideas all over the web. Tearing the walls out would be an undertaking. Easiest way first.

without knowing the construction of the walls you can cover them with plasterboard. Use pva primer and plasterboard adhesive transferring electrics, skirting boards etc. You can get artex remover but some of the old products contained asbestos

It depends on if it is a plaster wall or drywall compound over drywall. If Plaster, I would suggest pulling it all down to the studs and replacing with drywall. It will make a more versatile base for your remodel. If it is simply a compound, you can sand it off and redo the compound in a smooth finish, or panel over or wallpaper the new drywall.

Sounds like a plaster design. Best way to do it just tear the walls down and re-sheet them, mud them and paint them.

You could sand them down but that would make a HUGE mess, try getting some 1/4 inch drywall and put that up over the walls, it's alot easier and then just paint!
