Even the neighborhood associations that require the house to be a certain color, they choose beige.
Doesn't anyone else think that is insanely boring and ugly?
(Not that I wouldn't live in the suburbs. Just wouldn't like buying a beige house.)
When I buy MY first house, it has to be green.
I want to eventually own four of them in a row.
Then I'm going to knock them down and build a big red hotel.

Beige is what you get when you pour all of your OOPS paint in a trash can, and mix it up. Even if you buy recycled paint, it's always a dull beige.
The nice thing is that if it gets dirty, you can't tell right off. It blends in with natural things, and if it's good enough for the neighbors, there will not be a problem. You've got to get along with your neighbors!

It is sad. A couple a few houses over just bought a beautiful Victorian and renovated it. They painted it a beautiful yellow. It's a stunning house, now. Another family painted their house in grays, blues, and reds. So very cool.
We are inherently boring people who don't want to stand out. We like the status quo. We don't want our neighbors getting mad at us for having something different.
I agree. Beige is blah.

The reason is: Do you know the diffrence between having sex with a nympho, a hooker and a housewife is? a nympho is more, more, more. a hooker is more money, more money. A housewife is beige, I think I will paint the house beige.

Builders hire decorators who pick color schemes. They like things that are neutral, beiges and browns, so they won't offend most people. The average person will tolerate neutral shades even if that's not their first pick, but they might react strongly to bright or dark colors. At least, in my area that was the trend a few years ago. Now they're getting a bit bolder, darker colors, and moving away from white trim in favor of darker shades. The good thing is that it's only paint, and all houses must be repainted at some time so, HOA mandates notwithstanding, you can get more creative.
The interiors of most houses is usually what I call builder's beige. Yawn! My own house, now that I've painted it, is two shades of dark brown, caramel trim, with a cobalt blue door on the outside. Inside the rooms are painted terra cotta (five different shades), burgundy, chili pepper red, dark blue-green, purple, pink (girl's room), and neon green, yellow and orange (boy's room).

Some of the newer housing developements actually have contracts that state you must paint your house in neutral colors and beige shows the least dirt so I guess it would be more popular.
